RAD Showcases Award-Winning Carrier Ethernet Mobile Demarcation Device at 4G World

CHICAGO, October 25, 2011 – As part of the 4G World conference and expo, which opens today in Chicago, RAD Data Communications is exhibiting in Booth 1927 its ETX-205A Carrier Ethernet mobile demarcation device, which less than two weeks ago bested competitors when it won the Best Mobile Backhaul Product Award at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress in Amsterdam.

Designed for mobile backhaul, wholesale services and business applications as a member of RAD’s EtherAccess portfolio, the ETX-205A enables pure Ethernet backhaul as well as the consolidation of 2G, 3G, and 4G/LTE traffic at base stations.Placed at cell sites, hubs and mobile switching centers, it helps backhaul providers, as well as fixed-mobile carriers monitor network performance and guarantee quality of service.

The ETX-205A incorporates a host of differentiating features. Most notably, these include hardware-based OAM for accurate monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs),such as latency, jitter, and packet loss; traffic management tools, including hierarchical scheduling and per-EVC shaping that prioritize traffic and correct congestion issues; and SyncE and 1588ptp timing functions. Additional “bonus” features include field replaceable redundant power supplies that eliminate the need for a maintenance window, and flow mirroring that enables non-intrusive traffic analysis.

Eitan Schwartz, RAD’s Vice President of Ethernet Access, joined the conference portion of the 4G World event on Monday as a panelist in the discussion on “Better Backhaul for Next-Gen Services.”At that forum he referenced the ETX-205A’s top selling points in presenting strategies for delivering premium carrier class services with advanced features while minimizing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and reducing ongoing operational costs.

Summarizing the differences between basic OAM NIDs and advanced demarcation devices, Schwartz advised the audience to embrace the key benefits of the latter. “Insist on hardware-based OAM, robust traffic management tools and interface options so one platform can be deployed for all access types and services,” he said. “Only with the help of features like these can carriers truly offer premium services at premium prices.” About RAD Founded in 1981, RAD Data Communications has achieved international recognition as a major manufacturer of high quality access and backhaul equipment for data communications and telecommunications applications.
