Three-Year Contract between AIFA and Accenture for a Medicines' Evaluation Systems in Italy

The Italian Medicines Agency, in Italian Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco (AIFA), has asked for Accenture, a company that provides management consulting, technology and outsourcing services, to implement and maintain an integrated Medicine Evaluation System to increase service efficiency.

It will be a three-year contract by AIFA, the national authority responsible for drugs regulation in Italy, which is responsible for conducting inspections of products and is legally responsible to perform and operate manufacturing processes.

Accenture, which is considered a leader in working with healthcare organizations, will provide management consulting and IT services that will support, measure, monitor and analyze all AIFA processes.

Accenture has a profound understanding of technology for the healthcare industry but will face not only the challenge of coming up with an evaluation system to meet the needs of AIFA’s health administration services, but to also to adopt intelligent long-term approaches that will support the entire business into the future.

Over a three-year span, this project is meant to strengthen relationships with its stakeholders, and to position the Agency at the forefront of European medicine agencies.

Accenture’s Health and Public Service Managing Director in Italy, Gianmario Pisanu, said Accenture will help transform AIFA’s processes for administration and medical technology by creating the integrated system they had asked for – one that will improve health administration services that use analytics. He adds that Accenture will meet the demands of the Italian health system by fulfilling their contractual promise to supply the innovative technology needed to provide best-practices and high performance.

With Accenture’s help and AIFA's commitment to innovation, Italy will soon have a Medicine Evaluation System that will help control drug utilization, manage the value and cost of Italian medicines, report drug consumption and expenditures.

Accenture’s contract to build an integrated system is designed to support AIFA's mission: There is an understanding to provide analytic and innovative solutions for the Italian health-care system, if not help drive business performance.
