Value-Based Health Systems Come of Age as Orlando Health Replaces its EHR System with Phytel's Atmosphere Platform

In order to build new healthcare delivery models that effectuate population health, improve quality and lower cost, Orlando Health, a not-for-profit healthcare network and a community-based network of hospitals and care centers throughout central Florida, has selected Phytel’s Atmosphere suite of Web-based population health management tools.

Phytel’s 400 doctor community will use its Outreach, Insight and Coordinate modules to ensure appropriate intervention and follow-up when it comes to patient care.

According to the VP and CIO at Orlando Health, Rick Schooler, the wide adoption of Phytel by many EHRs was also important because “it would mean private practice physicians in any accountable care organization we may form would have access to Phytel’s vital reports on patient care gaps.”

Phytel’s successful implementations at other complex health systems also seem to have played a key role in the final selection decision.

At a time when care providers are rewarded commensurate with the quality of care they deliver, Orlando Health has always tried to be a step ahead by adjusting to this fast-evolving system of health. A population health and care management tool that went beyond the electronic health record (HER) was necessary for success.

Phytel stood positioned to offer a combination of field-tested solutions that include patient engagement tools, clinician workflows and integration capabilities. These integration capabilities would ensure that the variety of EHRs from different vendors work together with Phytel’s platform.

To help streamline provider workflows and offer effective patient engagement, Phytel also plans to integrate its solution with Orlando Health’s portal platforms, which should enable information access by both physicians and patients to their respective needs and priorities.

According to the CEO at Phytel, Steve Schelhamm, the adoption of Phytel’s complete solution is a signal of confidence and in Phytel’s ability to implement at scale and on time. Phytel was committed to helping one of the country’s premier healthcare systems build a successful and accountable care organization, and by use of its tools and expertise, he was confident Orlando Health would achieve those goals.
