DSS Inc. Enhances vxVistA Extension Hub
DSS Inc. has unveiled an enhanced vxVistA.org website, allowing all VistA users within a hospital or health network to work together as a team. VistA and vxVistA extension users will be able to migrate to open source software with this new design.
“The vxVista.org extension hub incorporates a variety of online features for aiding the adoption, implementation and enhancement of the VistA system,” said Lopez, Project Manager and Conceptual Designer of the Web site. “Through the website, users can interact with and learn from one another as they work to find the best solutions for problems they face during the transition.”
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently decided to move to an open source VistA system with the assistance of the new hub, which will aid in finding well-suited modules or extensions and help VistA improve in the VistA Extensions Hub.
The hub will allow other users and developers to collaborate with each other via the VistA Exchange Center. Users will also be able to take part in webinars with experts each week, where information related to different topics like software development, implementation and support will be provided by experts.
A comprehensive array of add-on VistA applications, comprising of supplementary administrative and clinical functionalities like behavioral health, radiology, oncology and dentistry, is available by VistA extensions. The Open Source Electronic Health Record Agent (OSEHRA) is a non-profit organization aimed at enhancing electronic health record (HER) through open source development. The new Web site will assist the efforts of OSEHRA, and supplement conversations and associations between the VA and the open source community.
“We are energized by the launch of our new VistA extension hub and look forward to working alongside OSEHRA as a liaison between the VA and VistA users,” said Mark Byers, CEO and president of DSS. “While OSEHRA provides a collaboration community around VistA, our site addresses the need for an environment in which end users can collaborate on extensions and search for non-technical help.”
