Healthcare Technology and News: RidgeviewTel to Bring Broadband Services to Northern and Eastern Colorado

RidgeviewTel, a broadband services company, reportedly said that it’s designing a program to expand and help bring broadband services to Northern and Eastern Colorado.

The company has engineered a plan known as Open Access Network plan. Company officials said that they have engineered this plan utilizing dBOSS Platform.

Recently, Rep. Betsy Markey, D-Colorado, toured the RidgeviewTel headquarters in Longmont, Colo. Representative Markey and her team reviewed Open Access Network plan during their visit, according to officials.

Currently, engineering is underway to design and network the majority of Markey’s Eastern Colorado district, according to officials. The proposed network design is expected to serve more than 16,000 households within Markey's district. In addition, it’s also expected to help bring multiple carriers to the regions.

“Broadband is a necessity to support our rural communities,” said Rep. Markey, the 4th Congressional representative, adding that providing high-speed, wireless broadband service at an affordable price to people in rural areas is greatly needed.

Markey said that the agricultural industry, medical services and community centers, such as schools and libraries can all benefit from this network. Eastern Colorado is mostly rural.

“Residents and businesses here need the same level of communications that we have in the urban corridor and together we are working hard to make that a reality,” Vince Jordan, CEO at RidgeviewTel, said in a statement.

Along with serving ranchers and farmers and their businesses, the proposed RidgeviewTel plan is also expected to serve healthcare centers, schools, and community-based organizations.

Officials said that the creation of Open Access Network will put an infrastructure in place to attract multiple providers to the region, which is expected to be critical in maintaining affordable service levels for many years to come.

RidgeviewTel is a provider of high-speed, wireless Internet services to communities under-served by traditional telecom and cable providers. The company operates through three divisions, and provides wireless broadband to rural areas in several states including 24 communities in New York, 29 in Colorado, and eight in Illinois.

Recently, the company announced that it will continue providing Premier Wireless customers with Internet access. Premier is a Canton company that shut down because of mounting debt and the downturn in the economy.
