Healthcare Technology and News: SonicWALL Deploys NSA E6500 Threat Management Solution for ZirMed

SonicWALL, a network infrastructure solution provider, announced that it is providing flexible high-speed gateway firewall protection to healthcare revenue management service provider ZirMed.

ZirMed implemented SonicWALL E-Class NSA E6500 appliance after it reached the intended capacity of the existing SonicWALL PRO 5060 gateway firewall, officials said. Since SonicWALL had not released the E-Class version then, ZirMed chose a device from another vendor but soon realized that it did not offer the same flexibility or management features which SonicWALL offered. The company now upgraded the data center gateway to the new NSA E6500 appliance.

Chris Schremser, ZirMed CTO, said, “The E6500 gives us high-performance UTM while still allowing the utmost flexibility in shaping and routing our traffic, which is incredibly important to us. I easily exported my original configuration to the E6500 and it just worked.”

With SonicWALL E-Class NSA E6500, ZirMed is using only 15 percent of the appliance's first three CPUs even during peak times, and the other 13 processor cores aren't even being touched, Schremser said.

The firewall protection helps ZirMed block potential SQL injection attacks or bad code trying to get in through the SMTP gateway. It also protects them from unintentional internal threats like a user plugging a virus-infected laptop into the network. With higher security concerns involved in credit card transactions, ZirMed is highly concerned about compliance with HIPAA and PCI regulations. NSA E6500 enables them to add as many layers of prevention as they can, Schremser added.

ZirMed has deployed SonicWALL Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliances at each site.

SonicWALL secures businesses by providing a wide range of IT infrastructure solutions including network security, secure remote access, content security, backup and recovery, and policy and management technology. The company recently integrated Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) virtual private network (VPN) remote access into its TZ 210 and NSA UTM firewalls. SSL-based Clean VPN integration delivers simplified and encrypted connectivity to remote network users while revolutionizing protection by inspecting these same connections for intrusions, malware and misuse, a media statement from the company said.

In February, HealthTechZone reported that SonicWALL is growing its customer base across various industry sectors. The company launched the clean VPN solution for customers in the government, IT services, financial sectors and consultancies. Some of its customers include The City of Lincoln, the Alta One Federal Credit Union, the Jewish National Fund and RVM, officials said.
