Today the healthcare industry relies on technology not only to provide healthcare related services but also to communicate with many different departments and facilities within the organization. The implementation of information and communications technology has introduced new levels of efficiency that has resulted in noticeable cost saving measures across the board in the industry. It is therefore very important to have a network that is maintained properly so it can deliver the information employees need when they need it without any glitches.
The Catholic Health System, a not-for-profit healthcare system providing medical services across 14 sites in western New York, has acquired the services of Juniper Networks so it can simplify the configuration and management of its network.
The health organization is deploying a High-IQ Network to better manage all of the facilities which include around 1,000 acute-care beds and 8,600 employees providing acute care, primary care, long-term care and lab and rehab services. This will allow it to simplify and scale data center operations that support life critical applications throughout the organization.
Catholic Health needed a secure high-capacity network that is able to meet HIPAA compliance regulations of the facility's electronic medical records (EMR) and medical imaging system as well having to deal with an aging legacy system. It chose Juniper Network's MetaFabric, an open standards-based architecture for next-generation data centers capable of delivering reliable and proven levels of patient care that is secure, easy to implement and flexible.
The MetaFabric architecture is designed to provide the deployment and delivery of applications for multiple sites and clouds with a combination of powerful switching, routing, and security platforms. It is able to achieve this integration with the technology ecosystem by leveraging feature-rich silicon, programmable systems, network orchestration, SDN, and open APIs.
The benefit of MetaFabric architecture has three pillars that solve the complexity of creating an efficient network in today's complex data center landscape. They include:
Simple – Enables ease of deployment, operations and management of the network without service interruption.
Open – Maximizes flexibility by integrating with any data center environment, eliminating vendor lock-in.
Smart – Saves time and improves the performance of the network through data, analytics, and actionable insights.
It also delivers the latest network architecture and operations solutions including server virtualization, private, public, hybrid cloud computing, and SDN transformation projects along with a security platform capable of addressing threats by adapting to detect, defend and respond to targeted threats.
"The healthcare industry is facing significant challenges with implementing EMR and PAC apps and supporting BYOD on aging legacy networks. By employing the principles of Juniper's MetaFabric architecture, Catholic Health is able to realize the benefits of a comprehensive data center solution that seamlessly integrates core and edge switching with security to allow it to deliver an unparalleled user experience every time," saidMike Marcellin, senior vice president of Strategy and Marketing, Juniper Networks.
