Corning MobileAccess Expands Ann Arbor Hospital's Wireless Connectivity



Corning MobileAccess has announced that it has expanded the St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor hospital's wireless capabilities.

“The modern hospital requires more than just Wi-Fi. Healthcare providers like St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor need to have seamless cellular service throughout their facilities," Tom Tocco, vice president of Support Services and Capital Projects at the hospital said. "The Corning solution not only allows patients and visitors to easily communicate with family and loved ones outside of the facility, but it also improves access to physicians and staff, improving response time in the event of emergencies and enhancing overall efficiency of our operations."

The expansion at St. Joseph Mercy's 537-bed Ann Arbor, Mich. facility comes on the heels of a similar expansion done previously at its sister facility, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Mich.

The expanded connectivity is used for healthcare applications like electronic medical records and medical telemetry. The indoor mobile platform using the Corning MobileAccess2000 DAS, which works with multiple carriers and platforms. It supports everything from 2G and 3G networks, all the way up to 4G LTE.

"The Corning solution provides St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor with pervasive cellular coverage for critical communications, and future-ready, ubiquitous accessibility to vital healthcare applications, like electronic medical records and patient monitoring."

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, a community and teaching hospital, is currently celebrating what it calls a “century of care” this year. The hospital has nationally recognized specialties including cardiovascular medicine, oncology, orthopedics and robotic surgery. Thomson Reuters has recognized St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor as a “Top 100” hospital.
