In the midst of slot machine and numbered booths at last week’s CTIAshow, the historic passage of the Senate’s health-care bill was probably the second-most important thing on the minds of attendees.
But for a Scottsdale, Ariz., company called MedApps whose technology is tailored to the health care, one of the hottest vertical in wireless, it was top of mind.
That’s because MedApps, which got its start making traditional cell phone applications, has perfected its MedApps Mobile Health Monitoring System. This system effectively connects patients with their families and care providers. With only five buttons for patients to push, it’s an easy-to-use and affordable remote health monitoring option.
The four-year-old company’s co-founder and CEO Kent Dicks gave HealthTechZone contributor and Crossfire Media co-founder Carl Forda closer look at latest gadget to make the lives of patients and physicians easier in a special onsite video interview.
The dedicated health device uses Bluetooth and M2M technology to upload data (pulse oximeter, blood sugar levels, etc.) to send it to hospital. And its backend system lets nurses to set threshold for blood sugar readings and other health benchmarks.
Therefore, a health provider can load new programs and changes onto the device, and make many necessary system fixes remotely.
“Most devices have 20 buttons on it, and it gets very confusing very fast,” Ford said, as he praised the MedApp device’s simplicity.
