Healthcare Technology and News: VBrick to Supply Students with Innovative IP Video Streaming Solutions

VBrick, offering enterprise IP video solutions, with over 6,000 corporate, education and government customers and 60,000 installations worldwide, has been selected by Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine to provide reliable and secure streaming of live and on-demand video for training medical students and staff.

Each year, Penn State College of Medicine instructs hundreds of students in surgical procedures. Staff and lecturers through the installation of VBrick's IP video streaming technology, can access on-demand video of those procedures from any network-enabled computer across the campus and medical center complex. In addition, the faculty members are able to edit the video and play it back to students.

"Live surgical video has been a part of our curriculum for the past few years, but never before have our instructors been able to view the video, edit the content, and play back the most important aspects in the classroom," Dr. Russ Scaduto, Director of Education Technology at Penn State College of Medicine, explained. "With VBrick, we are able to go well beyond 'textbook education' and provide the most innovative and effective learning opportunities to all of our students."

Without impacting the performance of other critical networked applications, the versatile video-over-IP solutions of VBrick enable the college to stream video across any network. Saved within the college's newly formed video library, the captured video is accessed through VBrick's Enterprise Media Systems video portal. The credential users, through the portal are provided with free access to the video library, while also protecting privacy under HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

"We're thrilled to be able to work with Penn State College of Medicine and continue our commitment to supplying the higher-education community with innovative IP video streaming solutions," John Shaw, chief operating officer for VBrick, said. "We will continue to match this sector's dedication to education by engineering and bringing to market the most reliable, secure video technology available."

In related news, VBrick has announced that despite recession, 2009 was a significant year for the company marked by several industry-first product launches, recognition from top analysts for technology innovation and an impressive array of new customer wins.
