Healthcare Technology and News: South Jersey Healthcare Enhances Tracking and Communication System with Amelior Tracker

Patient Care Technology Systems, a subsidiary of Consulier Engineering, Inc., has announced that the company’s Amelior Tracker system has been selected by South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center to automatically track and effectively manage physician location and communication inside and outside the hospital.

South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center is a 262-bed facility in Vineland, N.J.  To complement and enhance the delivery of responsive, efficient care, the integrated medical campus, which is a part of the South Jersey Healthcare network, is uniquely designed.

The installation will include the Amelior Tracker solution which is a part of the Amelior Enterprise Visibility Suite comprising department to facility-wide software solutions and services designed to more efficiently and safely orchestrate patient care through the real-time visualization of patient flow. The installation is expected to get completed by spring 2010.

The Amelior tracking software is Web-based and visualizes workflow by automatically identifying the location of people and equipment and the care progression of patients.

By integrating with the proper choice of RTLS to assure desired customer outcomes, the location information is generated. The PCTS software being compatible across all locating technologies assists clients in selecting the optimal RTLS for their workflow needs.

Within the software, workflow algorithms interpret the meaning of location, movement and interactions between patients, staff and equipment. This helps to alert caregivers to patient care milestones as they occur.

The centralized workflow communication and management portal so created by additional interfaces to hospital and department information systems and communication devices, helps to eliminate the need for manual updates and delays caused by a lack of information.

PCTS, at SJH Regional Medical Center, will integrate the certainty-based RTLS and Staff Badge from business partner CenTrak, Inc. The Staff Badge of CenTrak is ultra thin and is also of light weight. It can easily fit behind a standard personnel badge. The badges work with Gen2IR and active RF technology and also can be customized to support a range of integrated tracking sensors.

“After a comprehensive review of the RTLS marketplace, we chose Patient Care Technology Systems and CenTrak, Inc. because of their proven experience in implementing scalable, innovative workflow-intelligent solutions that can meet our unique demands and future needs,” Tom Pacek, vice president and chief information officer for South Jersey Healthcare, said. “Their ability to integrate the right locating technology, and automatically track the real-time location of our physicians without them having to touch a button or screen, made PCTS and CenTrak the only choice for us.”

Overhead paging, currently being used throughout the hospital, adds more stress to the environment for patients and staff. With the use of the new software, physicians will be able to directly receive speech-enabled call routing and message notification services, whether they are in the hospital, in their office, or via their mobile telephones.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center as the newest member of our growing family of health care facilities,” Jaime Ojeda, vice president sales and business development of PCTS, said. “The innovative application we created for SJH Regional Medical Center not only includes our robust Amelior Tracker system, but also includes a unique interface to the Parlance System. We are happy to provide a system that will allow the elimination of overhead paging for physicians, and an accurate in-house census of the physicians. We look forward to expanding our tracking applications at other SJH Network locations in the future.”

In related news, CenTrak, one of the providers of Real Time Location Systems, has announced the release of its new Hand Hygiene Compliance System.
