Healthcare Technology and News: GE Healthcare to expand its ecomagination portfolio

GE Healthcare, a provider of transformational medical technologies and services has announced an expansion in its portfolio of ecomagination products.

The company has undertaken this expansion with a view to help healthcare companies and hospitals trim down cost and waste while positively impacting the environment. Earlier catering the healthcare industry with more than 85 ecomagination products, GE has now added two brand new healthcare products and three product categories, including the Centricity Enterprise Electronic Medical Record solution in the GE ecomagination portfolio.

In recent times the need and demand for high quality, efficient technology in healthcare has tremendously increased owing to the hike in energy costs and constant concern for the environmental consequences of energy consumption and resource use. GE Healthcare, in order to shape a new age of patient care and to be recognized as an ecomagination offering, has passed each of its product through a rigorous review process of the operating and environmental performance improvements to deliver better care to more people around the world at a lower cost.

In addition, GE Healthcare also partners with healthcare leaders and strives to leverage the global policy change that is required for a successful shift to sustainable healthcare systems.

“We’re committed to building a strong portfolio of products that meet both the ecomagination environmental performance standards and the needs of our customers around the globe,” said John Dineen, president and CEO of GE Healthcare. “Our expanding portfolio confirms our commitment to finding innovative solutions that tackle energy use and waste reduction, both of which also reduce cost in the system.”

The newly added products and categories in the GE ecomagination portfolio comprise:

  • GE Healthcare’s Centricity Enterprise software solution: It is an Electronic Medical Record solution that helps healthcare organizations to save more lives, time and money. It electronically records patient’s demographic and clinical information and makes it easily accessible for the clinicians thereby helping save money.
  • GE’s high efficiency family of magnetic resonance systems is one of the most energy efficient 1.5T MR systems. It employs efficient gradient and electronics design as well as innovative water-cooling technology. It uses 34 percent less energy as compared to the earlier generation systems. The high efficiency family of GE’s MR systems includes Optima MR360, Brivo MR355, and Signa HD 1.5T.
  • GE Digital Mammography Platform by replacing analog film and film processing with digital images, provides noteworthy benefits over traditional analog mammography. Some of them include: improved throughput, less waste and reduced energy, water, and chemicals use.
  • Used for vaccine and other biotherapeutics, GE’s WAVE Bioreactor system, helps cell culturing without requiring cleaning or steam sterilization with the use of disposable bags. This reduces water and energy consumption and staff time requirements.
  • GE Healthcare’s +PLUSPAKTM polymer bottle offers great advantage over traditional glass packaging. Some of the advantages include: less cost for waste disposal, reduced storage, and improved workplace safety for healthcare workers. The patented design and pharmaceutical grade polypropylene composition makes the PLUSPAKTM polymer bottle a much better choice.

All the newly added products in GE Healthcare ecomagination portfolio have been rigorously tested in-house and also by a third party in order to provide optimal satisfaction to GE clients.
In related news Repligen has announced to have Long Term Supply Agreement with GE Healthcare for Recombinant Protein A.
