Health Robotics reportedly unveiled its i.v. STATION at Gregorio Maranon University Hospital in Madrid last week. i.v.STATION enables a safe, accurate, efficient and ready-to-administer intravenous patient dose. It also reduces medication errors, ensures ISO-compliant accuracy, improves sterility and offers clinical labor savings within a scalable, distributed and fail-safe architecture.
The i.v.STATION automatically prepares IV medications from Spanish drug vials into different sizes of syringes.
In a release, Juan Jose Guemes, health secretary of state for Madrid’s regional government, stated, “i.v.STATION permits much more efficient use of the medications, especially for high-cost and high-risk medications, focusing on patients requiring strict therapy guidelines and rigorous pharmaco-vigilance and control of the aseptic compounding process.”
Guemes added, “After its full installation with IV Bags in 4 to 5 weeks from now, this technology will be expanded to the rest of public hospitals in the Madrid region.”
Maria Sanjurjo, director of pharmacy for Gregorio Maranon University Hospital, said the new system will improve patient safety and also the quality of the aseptic compounding processes. It will ensure that the physician’s prescription is followed strictly besides adhering to drug quantity, container sterility and drug stability requirements with a 99 percent confidence factor.
The i.v.STATION is reportedly capable of processing between 40 and 60 doses per hour, which increases the efficiency of aseptic pharmacy operations significantly.
The problems facing the IV Admixture operations include medication errors like drug exchange and accuracy mistakes, life-critical turn-around time, intravenous drug waste, regulatory issues and maintenance of trained staff.
Overcoming these odds, i.v.STATION automatically and aseptically compounds non-hazardous IV doses and dispenses them to clinical staff in ready-to-administer patient formats. The medication may be antibiotics, anti-virals, epidurals and other IVs and injectable medicines besides medicine used for pain therapy, disclosed hospital sources.
Health Robotics supplies life-critical intra-venous medication preparation, compounding and dispensing Robots. The company provides healthcare facilities with robotics technology and software automation solutions to global customers. The solutions offered by the company include CytoCare for hazardous IVs, i.v.SOFT workflow engine and the upcoming TNPstation besides the i.v.STATION for non-hazardous IVs.
