Healthcare Technology and News: CareFusion and Axeda Win Award for CareFusion Remote Support Services Program

CareFusion Corporation and Axeda Corporation have reportedly won an award in the healthcare category for the CareFusion Remote Support Services program. This annual award, given by an industry magazine, recognizes the most successful commercial applications of machine-to-machine technology along with their solution providers.

Hospitals all over the world are opting for the use of modern technologies in improving the patient care. Remotely observing the patient helps the busy health professionals to provide timely advice and care to the patient, and thereby improve the quality of life for the patients. Remote monitoring also helps hospitals to minimize interruptions in the patient’s room.

With its Remote Support Services program, CareFusion can identify, diagnose, and repair products with remote access, diagnostic and software patch management capabilities. These features help CareFusion to considerably reduce the time necessary to resolve reported issues and related system downtimes.

“The Remote Support Services solution enables us to remotely manage many of our product models and monitor the overall health of these devices," said Steve Klis, senior vice president of customer support operations at CareFusion, in a statement. “This technology enables us to provide a higher level of support and efficiencies to our global customer base, helping our customers to save time and improve patient care.”

The CareFusion Remote Support Services program is deployed on more than 45,000 CareFusion devices and powered by the Axeda SmartLink platform and Axeda ServiceLink applications. The technology supports various CareFusion product models including the well-known Pyxis and Viasys brands. Apart from the award, CareFusion has also won the Axeda Deployment Excellence Award.

Earlier, the company was called Cardinal Health and the new name was chosen when it formed a medical technology company through the proposed spinoff of its clinical and medical products businesses. According to the company, the name CareFusion reflects a diverse blend of medical technologies the company will offer to improve the safety and quality of care. The new company will be headquartered in San Diego, Calif.
