The panel, called "Coming to Life: Open Source as a Viable and Cost Effective Health IT Solution," is meet at the
Spring CCS Health IT Summit June 16-17 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
During the discussion, panelists will review open source basics, advantages, and its working methodology. The group will also offer industry perspectives, potential impact on Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and regional health information networks by adoption of open source.
The scope for sharing information now has a broader reach extending beyond individual institutions, as adoption of information technology in the health care industry evolves. To take integration to this new level, existing software models will have to be more accessible, affordable and widely supported along with overcoming a variety of technical obstacles.
A possible solution for achieving high end integration is by means of development and distribution of open source software, a robust software development model. Open source solutions have been used by more than 1,400 VA facilities and several healthcare systems spread across the country and have collaboration among individuals and organizations with common interests, shared intellectual property, and a commitment to standards.
"We are very pleased to be a part of the first CCS (Collaborative Communications Summit) panel to address open source at this year's meeting,” said Tim Elwell, vice president of
Misys Open Source Solutions - Healthcare. “We believe the best way to solve the difficult problems associated with interoperability will be made through collaboration."
“Open source development has been working transparently and collaboratively for years,” he added.” Now is the time to tap into these significant resources, leverage standards, and invest in the creation of unified technology platforms.
Misys is making these investments and encourages others to join with the intent of driving down costs and improving adoption."
The Collaborative Communications Summit (CCS) is a vertically focused group of global, executive level conferences providing networking, educational, and business development opportunity for its attendees, sponsors and exhibitors.
