Hospital of Saint Raphael Announces Implementation of Advanced Da Vinci Robotic Surgery System

With a goal of supporting its growing robotic surgery program, the Hospital of Saint Raphael has reportedly acquired an advanced da Vinci robotic surgery system.

In a press release, hospital officials claimed that Saint Raphael’s new da Vinci Si HD system is among the most advanced in the state. The equipment is going to be used for the colorectal, urological, gynecological and thoracic procedures.

With the da Vinci robotic surgical system, surgeons operate with the help of robotic arms that allow for more accuracy and a better view of the target area. The latest innovation in da Vinci systems, the Si HD features a fourth surgical arm, HD visualization, an updated user interface, and a dual console. These new features allow for easier training and collaboration between surgeons, according to the release.

“This is an important and exciting step for robotic surgery at Saint Raphael’s. Robotic surgery has been proven to result in quicker recovery time and fewer side effects, and we’re pleased to offer this cutting-edge technology to patients in the New Haven area,” director of Robotic Surgery Dr Thomas Martin stated in connection to the implementation.

New Haven, Connecticut based Saint Raphael hospital is known for its clinical excellence and patient safety. It will be worthwhile to mention that Saint Raphael’s was the first hospital in the state to develop a Robotic Surgery program. Over the past few years, the volume of robot assisted surgeries has significantly increased in the hospital.

The investment in new da Vinci robotic system is expected to expand the hospital’s capacity. The physicians in the hospital will now be able to offer patients the latest in robot-assisted procedures as part of one of the most comprehensive robotic surgery programs in the state.

Several surgeons' passion for robotic-assisted microsurgery came together to create an international society promoting awareness of the potential uses of robotics in many types of surgeries. The society's first Multispecialty Robotic Microsurgery Symposium took place in early November at Winter Haven Hospital and Disney's BoardWalk Inn.
