PositiveID Obtains FCC Clearance for the Sale of Its iglucose System in the U.S.

PositiveID Corporation, a developer of specialized medical devices and molecular diagnostic systems for diabetes management, rapid medical testing and airborne bio-threat detection announced that following the successful completion of all Federal Communications Commission- required testing, its iglucose mobile health device is now cleared by FCC to be sold in the U.S.

In addition, PositiveID received FDA clearance to market the iglucose system in the U.S, the company further clarified in a press release.

The device reportedly passed all certification testing without the need for any redesigns, Positive ID claimed in the release.

iglucose is a mobile health system that seamlessly communicates glucose readings from leading blood glucose meters to the iglucose diabetes management portal, the company explained in the release. These data can be shared automatically with the family members, caregivers and health care professionals though text message, email, or fax. This system eliminates the need for keeping manual logbooks of glucose levels and empowers people to be more active with the management of their diabetes.

In the release, Positive ID claimed that iglucose can prove to be fundamental cornerstone of diabetes management. People with diabetes are often advised to check their blood sugar, keep a logbook of their readings, and take them to their healthcare professional. But often the diabetic patients fail to keep logbooks. iglucose solves this problem by automating the process.

The speedy approval by FCC is indicative of the level of excellence that PositiveID puts into all of their projects, the company further maintained.  The iglucose System device is expected to hit the market in early 2012. The device will be made available through the healthcare insurers and home-healthcare providers, the company clarified.

In October, PositiveID Corporation received an order for its VeriChip microchip to be used for disaster preparedness and emergency management in Israel by an integration partner.
