University Intern Launches Health Awareness Campaign on Facebook Targeted at Global Youth


In an effort to make college-age students aware about global health issues through discussion, Jabari Fraser, a university student summer intern at Danya International, recently initiated a new global health social media campaign on Facebook called “Global Health in Action.”

Launched on August 1st, the campaign kicked off a contest where fans are encouraged to submit multimedia stories of personal experiences and engagement with global health issues.

The initiative focuses on three key areas: Learn, Act, and Interact, sources at Danya International, a growing health communications firm located in Silver Spring, Maryland, revealed in a press release.

On the Learn page, the visitors will find links to information and resources provided by The Global Fight and Global Health Council, an interactive Global Health Facts map by the Kaiser Family Foundation, and other resources.

The Act page is designed to inspire the visitors for contributing global health. The page provides examples of ways fans can get involved and features a video by Jolkona about global giving where donors can see exactly where their money has gone and the positive impact it has made.

The Interact page gives the fans opportunity to share their stories, opinions, knowledge, and ideas.

In the release, Danya International announced that the contest has been extended to allow fans from any country to enter. It was a response to the requests from international fans, the company explained.

The fans are given an opportunity to vote up to three times per day for their favorite stories. Winner will be selected on the basis of majority votes and receive an iPad 2. Story submissions will end on September 30th, and the voting period will be between October 1st and October 6th.

The winner will be announced October 7th on Facebook and at the 2011 8th Biennial U.S.-Africa Business Summit in Washington, DC. The fans are encouraged to join the campaign and enter the contest here.

Recently, Danya International launched a corporate blog. The blog was designed to feature posts related to Danya's mission, social impact goals, and best practices for its industry.
