Barcode Scanners and iPhones are Selected by Cook Medical

Socket Mobile recently announced that Cook Medical has selected the Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) 7XiRx. Cook Medical is one of the world’s largest privately owned medical device manufacturing companies. Their flagship products include the minimally invasive surgical procedures products. Socket Mobile is an innovative provider of mobile productivity solutions. Cook Medical uses the Socket CHS 7XiRx and Apple iPhone to monitor customers and also used to monitor their field based medical devices with their Cook Scan application.

In a release, Scott Todd, Cook Medical’s sales operations manager said, “Many of our field reps were already using iPhones, so when we set out to add a barcode scanner into the mix we were looking for something robust and reliable that could be easily customized to work flawlessly with our application and the iPhone. The CHS 7XiRx coupled with the SocketScan 10 SDK really fit the bill -- the technical documentation is great; between that and the sample code, we were able to glean everything we needed for implementation within four weeks.”

Cook Scan application reduces the need to track their medical inventory and also can allow the medical representatives on the field to be very accurate. This also allows Cook Medical to keep a check on the inventory and their intended use. The Cook Scan solution will be deployed in both United States and Canada to all the field representatives to help track their inventories. They will total over 600 field representatives and over 1000 hospitals to manage consignment inventories.

Samantha Chu, Socket Mobile’s data collection product manager said, “As the number of applications for smartphones and tablets continues to grow, particularly in the field service sector and within the healthcare market segment, it is increasingly important to have a high-performance barcode scanner that is capable of preserving data accuracy while also being compatible with a range of operating systems and platforms popular among end users.”

The CHS 7Xi and 7XiRx are iOS certified barcode scanning tools. They enable the user to rapidly use them along with their iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch devices.
