University Hospital Zurich Invests in Supercomputing Technology from Ziosoft

One of Europe’s leading health care providers, University Hospital Zurich (USZ), recently installed the Ziostation supercomputing functional analytics system from Ziosoft, Inc.

Previously, the hospital was using several single modality workstations throughout the facility for multi-modality clinical applications needs. To make things more complex, the systems were provided by different vendors. With the deployment of Ziosoft’s supercomputing system, the hospital now has a single 2D-4D imaging analytic solution for all its CT and MR imaging needs.

Ziosoft’s technology is based on open standard architecture that can be applied to any DICOM-based imaging modality including CT, MRI, PET and ultrasound. This allows developers to rapidly take advantage of hardware advances and provide easy access to data across the enterprise regardless of modality.

“We needed to have a single solution provider for our CT and MR imaging needs in lieu of specific workstations for each modality,” said Thomas Frauenfelder, MD, deputy director of the Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, USZ. “It was critical to have a budget friendly solution, yet one that added great value in line with our high-end strategy for excellent patient care and befitting the reputation of the hospital. The Ziostation delivers superior image quality for a wide range of clinical applications across multiple imaging modalities.”

The hospital recently added Medicsight’s, a partner of Ziosoft, ColonCAD API.  According to Ziosoft, ColonCAD integrates seamlessly into the Ziostation system’s protocols. This technology is designed to assist radiologists during their review of CT colonography images by automatically highlighting potential colorectal polyps on the CT image, the hospital authority explained. .

In a press release, the hospital authorities revealed that in future, the hospital may extemd its relationship with Ziosoft for additional software advances such as PhyZiodynamic solutions, the gateway to 5D functional analytics. Meanwhile, the hospital will continue to take advantage of supercomputing open architecture technology for enhancing patient care.

Recently, Ziosoft entered into a partnership with Medicsight PLC, an industry leader in the development of Computer Aided Detection (CAD) and medical image analysis software. The agreement includes the integration of Medicsight’s ColonCAD API software and Ziosoft’s Ziostation technology, as well as distribution of both technologies by Ziosoft in the U.S. One of the first U.S. sites to use the combined Medicsight and Ziosoft technologies will be the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWH) in Madison.
