Health Techzone Week in Review

Going to a drugstore, which is a word that seems strange to begin with, is generally everyone’s first response when they begin to feel sick. This seems to be a natural course to take. I do it myself. Walgreens is one such institution that is trying to be pro-active.

By bringing big data style analytics to its Healthcare Clinic lines could be the first step. Walgreens is looking into a new patient assessment system for its clinics' operations. This could have the benefit of having advanced analytics in real-time in the healthcare field. This can be something good that benefits both the healthcare giver and the patient.

I believe that it was Author Clarke who said, “Magic is just science that we don’t understand yet.” How many times has that been proven true? Once we understand the process, then we can relate to the science behind it. The same can be said for science fiction.

If we just look at one show, the original Star Trek, we have flip phones that resemble and work like the communicator, the crew asked the computer a question by voice and heard the answer, sort of similar to SIRI. It seems that science fiction has a way of becoming reality.

One such person who has 20 years of experience in emerging technologies proves this point over and over. While her predictions may at first sound like science fiction, she seems to be an amazing lady that can turn that magic into science.

If most people are anything like me, then one of the last words that we want to hear is “emergency.” That always signifies something bad. However, when the emergency call does go out, it is good to know that there are responders who are ready to take that call.

AtHoc is a recognized leader in network-centric, interactive crisis communication. With this week’s announcement it seems that they are being recognized again. Sometimes the problem is not that there is no one available to respond to an emergency call, it is the fact that there is a delay in getting the call.

AtHoc’s Interactive Warning System could solve that problem. Imagine what could be accomplished if you had the ability to alert thousands of people at once on a network level. This article will let you know how AtHoc accomplished this.

Did you ever wonder what the information on the Food and Drug Administration’s labels really mean? Personally, it sad that all I can say is that I look for the expiration data and pretty much nothing else. In an attempt to bring itself into the modern world, the FDA might make it easier to get a handle on those labels.

The FDA announced that after 20 years, it is going to redesign the food labels. This is a process, so don’t expect to see new labels on the shelf this Monday. However, it will be interesting to see if I can understand them once they do hit the shelves.

How secure are your medical records? It seems that at a Connecticut hospital, the answer was no very. The hospital maintains written, paper records. That means that papers are shuffled back and forth and in this instance, roaming around the city in a doctor’s car.

Close to 900 paper records were stolen near the end of December last year. This is something that may not have occurred if all the records were stored electronically and easily accessible by a mobile device. This article will let you know how Hartford’s Saint Francis Hospital is going to update and change their system.

Here is a collaboration that could be just what the food and pharmaceutical industry needs on its side. Two companies, KPN and Dyzle BV have joined forces to introduce a new platform for real-time monitoring solutions.

Real-time, or at least, near real-time solutions are important in this industry. A lot of the products require refrigeration and are time sensitive. The ability to monitor their progress from warehouse to shelf is crucial and could be the difference between a useful product and one that needs to be discarded.

The only New Year’s resolution that I have ever made and stuck to was to never make another one again. Now I know that I’m in the minority here and on January 1 everyone vows to be healthier, exercise more and what have you.

If you are one of these people and are now at the end of the month finding it very difficult to continue the process, then perhaps you need  Fitlime Inc.’s Aim System. This is designed to help block outside distractions.

I’m guessing that the concept here is if you don’t have access to your smartphone, tablet or TV until your workout session is complete well then you have no choice but to stick to it. This could just be the motivation that people need to stay focused.

This is just a brief sampling of what is transpiring in the healthcare field this week. You can read all of the details of what I mentioned above plus all of the other articles that we worked on. Your eye on the healthcare field can be found at the Health TechZone.
