Visionworks Offers San Antonio Children Free Vision Screenings

Life is tough for kids who have vision problems. They are often unaware of what is going on with them and, as a result, are unable to express their concerns to their parents and teachers, leading the adults in their lives to assume that they have other problems.

Recognizing this, Visionworks is going to be offering San Antonio-area children free vision screenings on October 5th during The First Tee youth event, conducted between 9 AM and 4 PM at the Polo Field Golf Center. Jim Eisen, the president of Visionworks, said in a recent statement about the free screenings that the company is a “proud member of the San Antonio community,” explaining that it is important to help children get diagnosed with vision problems, “Studies have shown that children who have undiagnosed vision problems may perform more poorly in school, suffer from lack of self-confidence and may even have behavioral issues, so providing vision care services can impact these children’s lives in a meaningful way.”

Children who are in need of further examination will receive vouchers for free eye exams. Those in need of vision correction will receive vouchers for free glasses.

Eisen noted that First Tee is in line with their brand’s “promise of ‘A Better You.’” First Tee has been introducing young people to the game of golf since 1997. According to First Tee, their life skills programs and character education programs prepare young people for success in high school, college, and life. In the decade and a half that the organization has been in operation, it has been able to touch over 7 million young people.

While it is not a problem that is frequently addressed, correcting a child’s vision has the potential to change their lives for the better. Helping their parents afford the care they need, as well as making them aware that such a problem exists, offers the San Antonio community a great service.
