PDC Healthcare Extends Collaboration with Novation for Labeling Services

Accuracy is an important feature in virtually every industry, but in healthcare, it could be argued it is slightly more important. Healthcare facilities rely on the accuracy of the information they receive to carry out many different treatments. Whether it is giving a patient aspirin or performing an open heart surgery, they are carried out based on the information assigned by practitioners in other departments and facilities. Novation, a healthcare supply chain expertise, analytics and contracting company for the more than 65,000 members and affiliates of VHA Inc, UHC, Children’s Hospital Association, and Provista, LLC, extended its 15-year collaboration with PDC Healthcare, a globally recognized provider of innovative identification solutions.

The extension will be valid through July 31, 2014 and will include the labeling products from PDC Healthcare under the National Agreement and the NOVAPLUS brand. The members who are served by Novation will have direct access to these products which include stock medical labels, stock medical tapes, software compatible system labels, custom labels, blood bank labels, color-coded & date labels, patient charge & tray track labels and ribbons, and supplies for label printing equipment.

The acquisition of St. John Companies by PDC Healthcare in 2010 will give Novation more resources when it comes to labeling. This has expanded PDC's line of products to include stock and custom labels including laboratory labels, pharmacy labels and sterile medication labels.

Healthcare facilities are implementing many new sets of technologies to make them more efficient and cost effective. With a budget rapidly bordering the $3 trillion mark, the U.S. healthcare industry is looking at all options. Accurate labeling technology gives healthcare providers a level of efficiency that will eliminate the need to repeat procedures, identify functions and patients accurately to avoid costly mistakes, and remain compliant. The patient safety and regulations include The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Stage 2 Meaningful Use Requirements, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for patient identification.

"We are thrilled to broaden our collaboration with such a highly-reputable organization as Novation. We have partnered with Novation for 15 years to help hospitals improve the safety and care of patients, streamline operations, improve clinical outcomes, and enhance the overall patient experience," said Tracey Carpentier, president of PDC.

PDC has been providing proven ID systems used by global health organizations and facilities with more than 55 years of experience. The company was first in introducing the first single-piece patient wristband, first bar code wristband system, first Smart Band RFID wristband system, first thermal printer wristband, and the award-winning PDC Smart Kiosk. It provides services for the healthcare, leisure and entertainment and law enforcement industries.
