Doug Ryan Named Group VP of Samsung's Health and Medical Equipment

Doug Ryan, former vice president of marketing and strategic development at Toshiba America Medical Systems, was recently named the group vice president for the Health and Medical Equipment business unit of Samsung Electronics America's Enterprise Business Division.

Ryan will be in charge of the company's go-to-market strategy for its advanced healthcare systems line. He will also work with newly acquired subsidiaries NeuroLogica Corporation and Nexus DX Inc. on potential opportunities.

Samsung chose Ryan for the position due to his more than 20 years of experience in strategic business development in the healthcare field.

While working at Toshiba, Ryan was responsible for aligning marketing communications, business unit divisions and clinical collaborations to support the medial system’s businesses.

“We are confident that Doug’s wealth of experience and background in the health and medical equipment industry will help advance Samsung’s presence in this growing and strategically important business,” Tod Pike, senior vice president of Samsung Electronics America’s Enterprise Business Division, said in a statement.

Ryan said he is thrilled to be joining the company “at a time when it is focused on establishing itself as a trusted leader in healthcare and applying its significant technology and R&D capabilities to enhancing patient diagnosis and care.”

In addition to hiring Ryan, Samsung Electronics recently teamed up with Delivery Agent to launch the ShopTV television commerce application. The application, available on 2012 and 2013 Samsung Smart TVs, will enable viewers to shop for products displayed in network programming and advertising by using their remote control.

Moreover, Samsung Electronics' Africa division has partnered with startup accelerator 88mph to provide three startups with an opportunity to land a spot on the Built for Africa App store and be pre-loaded on smartphones in Africa. The startups will also receive assistance with the marketing of their services.
