Avantas Gains 20 Year Patent

Avantas, a leading provider of labor management and services for the healthcare industry, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent for the company’s Smart Square technology.

The patented technology allows providers to proactively determine labor needs based on demand forecasting, automatically post unfilled shifts, and utilize a calendar to fill the shifts with qualified staff. Supervisors can also attach incentives to unfilled shifts, decreasing those incentive amounts as open shifts are filled and the severity of need decreases.

“Having a patented technology is another demonstration of the unique value of Smart Square, the only comprehensive scheduling and productivity solution on the market that was built for the specific needs of healthcare professionals,” said Chris Fox, CEO, Avantas. “Smart Square is so much more than scheduling software; it’s a proactive technology solution built to automate best practice work strategies across an entire health system – inpatient, ancillary and medical practice groups.”

Medical facilities have issues with massing critically trained personnel on the correct shift and location within hospital grounds. It could take days, or even weeks, to properly reorganize during an influx of new patients. Perhaps more physical therapists are needed in critical care, or maybe in outpatient care. Many times the shortfall is not known until days or weeks later, and by the time management is able to organize, there is another shortfall waiting to be identified.

An analysis tool would be a great help to the medical industry. The tool could predict when and where personnel would be needed, greatly cutting down response time, which in turn could equal a quick recovery for patient, reducing long hospital stays.

Avantas says their system will integrate with third party IT systems to include a facility’s existing HRIS, EMR, Time & Attendance and Payroll systems.
