NEC Display Solutions Capitalizing on Demand for Color Imaging Systems

Responding to increased demand for color and 3D diagnostic imaging screens, NEC Display Solutions plans to release two LED display screens that enable color viewing. Both products, according to the company, will be available in May 2013.

The MD211C3 and the MD242C2, which are 23.1 inches and 24.1 inches in diameter, respectively, enable both color and grayscale viewing for diagnostic imaging. According to NEC, the MD211C3, which has a high brightness 3MP resolution, makes for a good upgrade for old color and legacy grayscale products.

The MD211C3 combines LED backlighting with two sensors: an in-built calibration front sensor and an ambient light sensor. The combination produces brightness that is high in quality and performance, by creating long-lasting stability for white point and brightness within images. An additional "human sensor" in the MD211C3 reduces energy consumption when the screen is not in use.

NEC manufactures the MD242C2, on the other hand, as a replacement for dual 1MP screens. The widescreen monitor has a 2.3MP resolution and eliminates the problem of having two screens that age at different rates.

"Hospitals are one of the most demanding digital imaging sectors, and so advancements require a perfect balance of outstanding innovation and rigorous compliance and reliability," said Ian Gobey, NEC's General Manager for Middle East & Africa.

In addition to releasing the new screens, NEC has updated its GammaComp MD QA software suite. A new graphical user interface and QAXRAY integration means the software supports the latest Quality Assurance standards.

QAXRAY is a module that guarantees consistent quality across the radiological imaging chain. For instance, it performs quality assurance functions for the German QS-RL tests, as well as for the new international standard IEC62563-1 test. When new regional regulations are published, customers with a maintenance contract receive the new updates automatically from NEC Display Solutions.

Both screens meet Class I medical device requirements put forth by the EU's 93/42EC directive. The screens work ideally when paired with Nvidia, AMD and Matrox display controller boards.
