Guardit and Project HOPE Team Up to have Sensors Used to Detect Early Signs of Pneumonia

Headquartered in Washington DC is Guardit Technologies, Inc., an innovative and problem-solving privately-held product development company which creates portable notification systems and Smart Object Sensors. Its purpose is to provide easy identification, safety and security notification (with custom message delivery) that can early detect problems and, if need be, transmit data using Bluetooth technology.

There is news this week that Guardit has offered its services to Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) where it would team up, “to launch a new device that will help aid in diagnosing pneumonia.”

This is not the first time these organizations have come together to collaborate on a project. In fact, in 2009, the emphasis was on using Guardit’s sensors to detect the onset of pneumonia. The project involved a test “Pneumonia Kit” to monitor respiratory rates of children in developing countries.

The majority of people might not know that pneumonia accounts for more deaths of children under five than any other disease or illness. Majority of the victims are from developing countries.

With ongoing concerns to combat childhood pneumonia, now, Guardit’s INSPIRE pediatric device with build-in medical sensors (able to detect temperature, heart pulse, respiratory and breathing count) has been chosen as the electronic aid to help fight against pneumonia and, ultimately, save the lives of more children.

INSPIRE will replace outdated and manual methods used by doctors and nurses to measure and analyze a child’s health state: ranging from checking respiration to changes in pulse pressure.

According to Guardit, INSPIRE will enhance the ability of healthcare workers to correctly diagnose pneumonia. The company says it is able to “test [a] breath rate in 15 second intervals and can also conduct multiple tests within a single minute time frame.” It also states that it’s possible to perform the test “in any position, whether [children] are sitting or lying.”

With pneumonia being a preventable and treatable illness, an electronic aid like INSPIRE can detect early signs of this inflammatory condition of the lung tissue and prevent, possibly, severe respiratory infection before breathing becomes difficult, weak or, in due course, absent. The use of such aid could possibly lead to saving children thanks to the ability to rapidly check the young person’s respiratory rate on time.
