Hospitals aren’t a daytime-only operation. When the sun sets, people are still on duty to take care of any emergencies that come their way, and they need ways of getting contact wherever they are.
Thanks to the Nervecentre mobile healthcare Hospital at Night solution, Leicester’s Hospitals can now manage off-hours care in a faster and more efficient way than ever before.
This replaces the previous pager system for after hour communication, replacing it with one that provides a live feed of information pertaining to the patient, sent between a senior nurse coordinator and a clinician’s smartphones. With it, hospitals will be able to prioritize tasks and make sure the right professional gets to the patient that needs them.
Not only that, but Nervecentre will provide Leicester’s Hospitals with data pertaining to off-hours activity to help prioritize the personnel and services.
In order to make this work, they’ll use the Nervecentre software and Leicester’s Hospitals’ wireless infrastructure to log all tasks onto a ward-based desktop PC, and sent wirelessly to the senior nurse coordinator. The tasks will then be assigned by said coordinator to whomever is best fit for it. S/he will then receive the assignment on their smartphone, where it will remain until the task is completed.
"We know from experience that urgent tasks are typically appropriately managed during out-of-hours care,” said Caroline Barclay of Leicester’s Hospitals. “The difficulty comes in prioritizing those non-urgent tasks. Without the ability to communicate patient-related information, it is impossible to make the value judgment between what really is a non-urgent 'green' task and one that is slightly higher priority or 'amber'. Nervecentre, however, will enable us to prioritize tasks dependent on clinical need - and do so quickly and efficiently."
Time is of the essence when working at a hospital, and communication is vital. Old pagers and beepers may be able to contact physicians quickly enough, but being able to connect with the appropriate staff member with clarity and speed cannot be underestimated.
The solution from Nervecentre will help Leicester’s Hospitals’ staff react quickly and precisely to anything necessary, helping save precious time and lives.
