telyMed Telmedicine Solution Enables 24-7 Specialist Consultations

Some patients, especially in rural or developing areas, have less access to specialists than patients in large metropolitan areas.

One of the advantages of telemedicine is the idea of democratizing access to medical experts. Patients in any part of the world can receive care from top specialists no matter what their location.

With this in mind, Tely Labs, the manufacturer behind the telyHD video calling system, has created telyMed. Sold as an upgrade to its telyHD system, telyMed is a software license that provides additional functionality to an existing telyHD solution.

Essentially, telyHD turns any television set or monitor into an HD video conferencing solution. The program utilizes an HD camera, four noise-cancelling microphones and Skype to enable videoconferencing.

telyMed is Skype-certified and utilizes the SIP communications standard, allowing for communication with specialists in any part of the world. The telyHD solution can make high-quality video calls to high-end videoconferencing solutions, as well as to any desktop or mobile device.

In other words, whether a specialist is in the office or on the golf course, patients can have anytime access to the healthcare they need.

A major advantage of the telyMed solution is the affordability of the HD conferencing system. “Without Net Medical and telyMed, it's safe to say hundreds of patients in the past year would have been denied access to potentially lifesaving medication,” said Dr. David McRaney, chief neurologist for Net Medical Xpress.

“For the hospitals and clinics we serve, telyMed has helped lower medical specialist response times to as little as 10 minutes.”

Specialists no longer have to be called at home, and patients no longer have to wait while they drive to the hospital to give an in-person consultation.

In rural or developing areas, where specialists cannot physically access medical facilities, patients no longer have to plan major cross-country or international trips to a specialist’s home hospital or clinic to receive the medical attention that they need.

Tely Labs will demonstrate the telyMed solution at HIMSS13.
