Intelligent InSites Selected by Group Health to Provide Better Patient Experience

Intelligent InSites, Inc. has announced that Group Health, a consumer-governed healthcare system, one of the only such organizations in the U.S., has selected Intelligent InSites to improve patient care and make healthcare more efficient.

Intelligent InSites is a source of enterprise real-time location systems (RTLS) software. Group Health serves over 625,000 community members with 25 Group Health medical facilities.

Hospitals use RTLS, positioning software, to track equipment and automate people flows.

Consumer-governed healthcare systems were the precursors to HMOs, set up to keep healthcare costs and insurance premiums affordable for consumers and small businesses, control the high cost of prescription drugs, help community-owned, not-for-profit hospitals remain independent, improve the quality of home-based healthcare and assisted living, and help small independent pharmacists compete with big box stores – allowing them to offer locally available prescription drugs.

Some would compare it to what is promised by the health reform law, recently upheld by the Supreme Court.

Set to open in December 2012, the Group Health Puyallup Medical Center was designed based on direct feedback from members, clinicians and staff. This new medical center  will allow easy access to services, including streamlining patient flow and eliminating waiting rooms. Patients will be able to check in and go straight to their care room, and services like lab will be brought to the patient with one click of the Intelligent InSites RTLS software.

Care will be provided by Group Health Physicians and other clinicians at 25 Group Health-operated medical facilities. In service areas where Group Health doesn't own facilities and for plans offering more choice, a network of nearly 9,000 community clinicians and 41 hospitals will take care of patients.

The idea is to make going to the hospital if not an entirely pleasant experience – at least a less-stressful and anxious one.

By using the Intelligent InSites solution, Group Health “can have the right room, the right staff, and the right equipment ready for the patient – reducing patient wait times and cycle times,” which should help in providing a “highly-satisfying patient experience,” according to a recent statement.

Yet one more Intelligent InSites solution, business intelligence and reporting capabilities, will allow Group Health to manage patient flow more efficiently and improve asset management, as vast amounts of automatically-collected data can be analyzed through real-time dashboards and reports, allowing the healthcare organization to continually monitor and upgrade their processes.
