AGNITY Healthware Announces Mobile Platform to Hook Doctors Up With Patients While on the Go

AGNITY Healthcare, a provider of healthcare applications and services, today launched its APTUS platform to bring together “existing but isolated communications and healthcare IT infrastructure investments to enable caregivers to get the right information, to the right people at the right time,” according to a company press release.

The APTUS platform enables mobile clinical unified communications (MCUC) for healthcare providers. MCUC integrates instant messaging, Internet Protocol telephony, video-conferencing and data-sharing along with other communications elements into one platform to allow users to have access to the same information and devices they have in the office while they are mobile, according to a story by Robert Mullins.

According to the press release, the APTUS platform “leverages existing hospital and clinical infrastructure to enable the convergence of unified communications (paging, voice, video, presence, location, alerts and other notifications) with real- time mobile access to clinical information (like electronic health records) on widely used smart phones and tablet devices.”

“Solutions enabled by the APTUS™ Platform will essentially extend clinicians’ and caregivers’ reach by creating a virtual point of care to wherever they are,” said Ken Epps, president of AGNITY HealthCare, in the press release. “The results will have a direct impact on healthcare cost, productivity and outcomes by getting the right information to the right people at the right time. . .Our initial customers are already witnessing results that they never thought could be produced for healthcare.”

Added Shashi Tripathi, vice president of IT with Facey Medical Foundation, in the press release, “Healthcare IT and communications co-exist in organizations today, but not in a way that facilitates the power of combining the best of healthcare IT with communications infrastructure. The APTUS™ platform provides a layer on top of the silos that bridges communications and collaboration with real-time access to patient related information. It significantly enhances communications among caregivers and results in faster decisions and better outcomes.”

The press release points out that over 70 percent of medical professionals are now using mobile devices to stay in touch with patients. “APTUS has been tested to be interoperable with smartphones, prominent handheld devices and industry leading EMR/PACS/CPOE systems,” according to the press release.

Other communications companies are getting into the unified communications market, as well. Mullins reports in another story that Siemens recently entered the marketplace.
